Over the years, A World Between Worlds has been the one site that records what I do. However, as it’s a bit informal and filled with content not directly related to my work as an engineering researcher, it’s not quite suited to serve as a professional homepage. So, I think it’s time for a change.
A few weeks ago, I registered the domain name zirui.fan, which I plan to use as my academic homepage. This new site will serve as a comprehensive record of my academic journey — essentially, a live CV online.
For building this new site, I decided to go with Hugo, which I enjoyed working with while building A World Between Worlds. And of course, this new site is going to have a fresh theme, which is going to be simply called Live CV.
Since A World Between Worlds already follows a conventional layout and style, I wanted to try something unique for this online CV. I decided to replicate the look of a traditional CV on paper but make it far more interactive and engaging. Here’s a preview:
In addition to the styling, the Live CV theme includes features specifically designed for academic homepages. Here are a few examples:
- Various sections for CV: There are dedicated sections for Research Interests, Education, Employment, Projects, Publications, Awards, Posts, and People.
- Easy Publication Management: You can store all your publications in the site’s configuration file, making them easy to manage. You can also select which publications to display on the main CV page, with your name automatically highlighted. Each publication can be linked directly to related project pages through a simple ID, saving time and effort on citations.
- Custom Project Profiles: Instead of a single date, each project can have flexible fields for start and end dates, as well as an abstract displayed on the homepage.
